If a Program Stops Working Is It Possible to Bring It Back
Work to Live or Live to Work?
Balancing work and personal life can sometimes be difficult, but it's crucial for your wellbeing.
- What's the difference?
- Which One Is Better?
- The Solution — Balancing Between Life and Work
Are you one of the lucky ones who love what they do?
Or maybe you fall into the category of people who work just for the sake of surviving in this society?
Either way, when it comes to work, things can sometimes get too complicated. So, we all need to find a middle ground and have some boundaries to avoid burnout or a missed opportunity.
We need to know when working becomes too much for us to handle, or the opposite — knowing when we are not exploring and using our potential enough.
Work is different for most people, so it's going to be difficult and also very wrong to generalize them when it comes to this topic.
Still, one thing unites pretty much all of us, and that's the fact that we all work, in one way or another.
Some have higher-paying jobs, others have the option to work remotely, and some are not only responsible for their own wellbeing, but also for the wellbeing and stability of other people or their employees.
Some start their careers earlier in life, and others find themselves along the way without pressure.
Some love what they do, others not so much.
After all, let's be real, it's pretty much impossible for everyone to love their job. But it should not be something that you resent, even though you don't necessarily love it all the time.
Your work should not stress you out every day, nor make you feel like you are less worthy.
However, your work should not be your entire life either, which is why I wanted to address and discuss the following dilemma— working to live or living to work — which one is better?
What's the difference?
Basically, "work to live" means you work so that you can allow yourself to enjoy other things in life, aside from your job.
It means that once you get home, your job has no meaning to you and that you are more focused on other things, such as your hobbies, your family and friends, and yourself.
Working to live means obtaining resources so that you can be a functional member of society, and to permit yourself a good lifestyle.
On the other hand, "live to work" might be understood in two different ways.
One is that your life is based around your work and nothing else, which could be pretty bad for you.
The other one means you love your job so much that there is no clear line between your professional and personal life. Some might say that when you love what you do, you never have to work a day in your life.
Still, is one of these approaches better than the other, and if yes, how?
Which One Is Better?
I personally believe that neither one is good or better than the other.
Most people work 8 hours per day, 40 hours a week, and more than 2,000 hours per year.
That's a LOT of your time, and it's important to spend it wisely.
When you are only motivated to work so that you can be financially stable and to be able to survive, you still have to spend hours on something that doesn't excite you, nor challenge you. You will do it, just because you have to.
But your work should be more than just a way of making money. It should at least be bearable.
Trust me, you wouldn't want to wake up one day and regret all of the time you could have spent actually doing something better.
So even if it's not your dream job, it can still be pretty nice because of your coworkers, the good environment, or the chances you get to upgrade and improve yourself over time.
Don't let yourself get stuck in something that doesn't help you grow in any way.
But, at the same time, be careful how much you invest yourself in your work.
Sometimes living to work means that you are missing out on all of the good stuff life can offer apart from your job.
You can love your job, and it's wonderful if you do. However, make sure that you don't overwork yourself.
Take the weekends off.
Don't work for more than 10–12 hours per day.
Spend more time with friends, go on a vacation, work on yourself and get a new hobby.
Life is never about one thing, so you need to find the perfect balance between everything.
The Solution — Balancing Between Life and Work
It's not always easy to find a balance between life and work, or the personal and the professional, but it's nonetheless possible.
If you are feeling unhappy with your work or life, the balance is your best solution to get rid of the negative feelings.
It won't be easy, and it will take you a lot of time until you get it right, but it will definitely be worth it.
So make sure to work on yourself and your career.
Make sure that you are always exploring your potential and working on your growth.
Don't waste your time with a job that makes it hard for you to get out of bed every single day.
At the same time, try to spend quality time outside of work. Don't bring your work home, and give your attention to your closest ones.
Take your chances and make your work and your life as comfortable as you can. After all, life is too short to be living without being happy and content with ourselves.
Having a job should not be only about paying the bills. It should be at least bearable.
But, remember that you are much more than just your work, no matter how much you enjoy in it, or how good you are at doing what you do.
Make the balance between these two, and you will find that life can be much better than you thought.
The balance means you are handling life, and that you are doing a pretty good job in that as well.
Adulting should not be hard, but it's up to you to make the necessary choices to improve your life.
So it's doesn't matter which one is better, whether working to live or living to work.
What matters is that you are happy, and that you stick to the things that you love and experience life to the fullest.
